Description:

Edmonton’s light rail system (LRT) opened in 1978 and has been expanding ever since to include 18 stations and over 30 associated buildings.

Job Description:

The city of Edmonton needed to find a controls system that was scalable for a planned
expansion to the LRT, so ESC needed to complete a retrofit on this city-wide light rail system while the system was active to avoid major shutdowns or delays. ESC used a customized Delta Controls ORCAweb software platform to customize the new LRT system and handle 100 different types of users and accesses.

Results:

The Edmonton LRT now has a cost-effective solution that is capable of future expansion requirements, and that decreases the downtime of the LRT system- meaning it can accommodate more passengers on a daily basis. Since the installation, the LRT has expanded from 10 stations to 18 and from 6 associated buildings to over 30
